Tunneling Protocols

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)

PPTP is a network protocol that enables the secure transfer of data from a remote client to a private enterprise server, creating a VPN by using standard TCP/IP-based data networks. PPTP supports multiple network protocols (IP, IPX, and NetBEUI) and can be used for virtual private networking over public and private networks.

Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)

L2TP works very similar to PPTP. It is derived from PPTP and Cisco's Layer 2 Forwarding (L2F) protocol.
