Adding Tunnels for VPN Support

The P32mxi supports two types of tunneling protocols for creating Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

A VPN allows you to securely access private information on your corporate network over a shared public network infrastructure such as the Internet. Using the Internet as the transport network lowers the overall network cost to the organization by reducing the amount of capital equipment, network management costs, and private leased line/frame relay circuit charges.

Tunnels are added for an entire Serial Interface.

To enable a tunnel, check the Use Tunnel box. Then:

  1. Decide if the tunnel should use MAC-layer or IP-layer Addressing.

  2. Set the tunnel for In- or Out-bound traffic.

  3. Choose either the PPTP or L2TP protocol for the tunnel.
