"Trunks" are generally defined as any connections to a larger network, such as to the PSTN. Both analog (VF) and digital (T1 or E1) circuits can be considered trunks. These circuits usually connect to a Central Office or Long Distance Carrier or IXC.
There are two main components to the Trunk Interface window:
The topmost part of the window shows the status of the Voice Frequency (VF) cards installed. The middle part (labeled "Network Interfaces") shows the configuration of the Digital Interfaces which connect to the external (telco) network.
