RFC1490 defines an encapsulation method to transfer SNA, IP, and other protocols over a Frame Relay network. To enable the encapsulation, check the Use RFC1490 Encapsulation box and select a protocol Type to be encapsulated.

The types of protocols that can be encapsulated for transmission over the Frame Relay link include:
Raw data
Routed IP packets
ARP requests
Routed CLNP packets
Bridged Ethernet Frames (with or without CRC)
PPP over AAL5
Bridged Token Ring (with or without CRC)
Bridged Token Bus (with or without CRC)
Bridged FDDI (with or without CRC)
Bridged 802.6 frames
Bridged Protocol Data Units (BPDU's)
Routed ESIS and ISIS frames
X.25 I packets
Q.922 NLPID's
Note that different Virtual Circuits (DLCI's) can carry differently encapsulated data.
